Our Story
Power House Sober Living was born in 2018 out of necessity. Paul Jones, a recovering drug addict and certified drug treatment counselor, was perpetually disturbed by what he saw happening to men after discharge from treatment.
More often than not, these newly clean and sober men had no safe place to go. Paul grew frustrated as too many fell into despair, relapse, homelessness, jail, and even death.
He rented a 3-bedroom apartment in Inglewood, California to do what he could to keep some men safe and sober. For 7 years, the original apartment was a safe refuge for men from all walks of life, regardless of their ability to pay.
At any given time, up to 8 men cohabitated in the small apartment and experienced a supportive recovery brotherhood. For many years, the organization functioned on a shoestring budget entirely reliant on inconsistent guest contributions and the personal generosity of Mr. Jones.
In 2024, Power House held its first fundraiser to secure the future of the organization and expand to serve more men in recovery. Positive change was afoot. The fundraiser made it possible for Power House to hire 2 staffers and recruit new members to its Board of Directors. A major capital project focus resulted in over $2 million donated to Power House in 2024, paving the way for the purchase of a permanent home base.
In 2025, Power House purchased its first multi-unit property in Inglewood. This location offers 2 recovery supportive homes that serve a total of 10 men, alongside a small on-site home for Mr. Jones.
Today, Power House is advancing its plans to sustainably expand into more locations and serve more people in early addiction recovery with essential, safe, and supportive sober housing.
